Brass Belt Buckle from the Seaforth Highlanders. Stags head facing forward withCuidich 'n Righ motto. Buckle is in good shape. It has marks and scuffs as it has been used. There is also a number possibly scratched onto the back side of the buckle. Made by Hobson and Sons, London. Looks to fit a 2" belt, however it was fit snugly onto a standard 2 1/4" kilt belt.
The "stags head" and
Cuidich 'n Righ motto are associated with the Seaforth Highlanders, a Scottish regiment of the British Army, symbolizing their historical lineage from Clan Mackenzie. Legend says the motto, meaning "Help the King," originated when a Mackenzie rescued King Alexander III from a stag in the 13th century, though an alternative explanation is the annual tribute of a stag to the Crown by the Seaforth Mackenzies. The badge features an antlered stag's head and the motto.
